Following what has been a challenging year for most of us, Ballarat and Grampians Community Legal Service (BGCLS) has adapted and continued to deliver a much-needed service to our community.
We have been successful in delivering on services and attracting new funding so that our dedicated and professional team can deliver new and improved programs to meet the changing demands of the Grampians Region.
With the additional State funding provided for Outreach services we have established new relationships with Neighbourhood Houses in Ararat, Stawell and Horsham. Face to face services have commenced and will continue to expand over the coming year. We have also seen an increase in funding to expand on existing family law services provided in partnership with Maternal & Child Health Services.
On behalf of the Committee, we thank the staff and volunteers for their dedication and commitment to BGCLS and the community. Internally, BGCLS has seen some changes as we continue to improve and establish a solid foundation for the future.
With new Committee members coming on board, we are developing a new vision for the future of BGCLS so that it is strengthened and is founded on best-practice. Our Committee members, Steven Ashton, Debra Harris, Sharon Hope and Paul Ryan are exploring new approaches on how we work with, interact and foster a strong value base so that the principles of social justice and access to the legal system remains our focus.
BGCLS has commenced a top-to-bottom review our organisation bringing about a change in leadership. Following in the footsteps of Scott Sherritt who was the Chairperson for many years, I received the honour of stepping into that role in early April 2022.
The value of volunteering should never be underestimated, and I thank everyone involved for their tireless work and thank outgoing Committee members, Annie De Jong, Trent Loader and Peter Cranage for their contributions.
Together we are all looking forward to a more diverse and stronger future as we seek to build on the strengths of BGCLS and better position the Service in the Region.
