Project & Education Report
The 2021-2022 year saw us continue to be impacted by COVID, but between lockdowns (and during lockdowns!) we were able to deliver a range of Community Legal Education both online and in-person.
Our team hit the road during Law Week 2022, delivering numerous Life Planning sessions at Neighbourhood Houses in Daylesford, Bacchus Marsh, Ballarat East, Ballarat North and Wendouree.
Law Week also saw us partner with the Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre, Child and Family Services, Social Security Rights Victoria, and Seniors Rights Victoria to present a Debt Help Expo to community members needing support to deal with debt.
We would like to acknowledge the Victoria Law Foundation for funding our work in the Neighbourhood Houses throughout Law Week.
Throughout the year we continued our outreach into the community by delivering Neighbourhood Disputes and Life Planning sessions to the Creswick Men’s Shed, and also Neighbourhood Houses in Warracknabeal, Rainbow, and Ballarat East.
Our team also presented a successful series of webinars on Family Law and Family Violence to Maternal and Child Health workers in collaboration with the City of Ballarat.
Finally, with COVID still front and centre, our COVID-19 and the Law Training Series featured webinars where our team discussed issues arising from Covid-19 and the legal impact on community members, specifically regarding tenancy, family law, family violence, fines, and how BGCLS can help.
We look forward to continuing this important work of Community Legal Education in 2022-2023, by responding to community need, consolidating existing partnerships, and furthering our offerings deeper into our communities in the Central Highlands, Grampians and Wimmera regions of Victoria.
